School of Governance, Law and Society is one of the six institutes of Tallinn University and a centre of excellence for social science research and knowledge in Estonia. The Institute studies societal and demographic processes, providing research-based explanations and solutions to key societal challenges. ISS educates experts in the field who understand and are capable of shaping social change. At all levels of higher education, teaching integrates high-level research, analytical thinking, and the ability to apply knowledge in practice.

ISS conducts research and development activities in two centres—the Estonian Institute for Population Studies and the Centre for International Social Research—and across five academic fields: political science, sociology, international relations and futures studies, social protection, and law.

Work assignments

The Lecturer in Economics and Entrepreneurship is expected to have teaching and research interests at the intersection of economics, entrepreneurship, and finance. The lecturer possesses a strong academic background and a solid understanding of core economic principles, while being able to approach them critically and with an open perspective, incorporating approaches such as social entrepreneurship and other sustainable economic models.

The core of the position is to teach courses in economics and entrepreneurship in both Estonian and English, and to contribute to interdisciplinary curricula. The lecturer is capable of teaching financial accounting, financial management, principles of marketing, introduction to entrepreneurship, and taxation. The lecturer values collaboration both within the institute and across disciplines, and is willing to contribute to the development of new courses and the strengthening of existing curricula. The lecturer designs and delivers subject-specific courses within their field.

In addition, the duties include:

  • supervising students’ entrepreneurship projects;
  • developing cooperation with practitioners, entrepreneurs, networks, and partner organisations to enhance the practical relevance and impact of teaching.


The ideal candidate demonstrates a strong understanding of entrepreneurship as a practice and preferably has prior or current experience in entrepreneurship. The following will be considered an advantage:

  • experience in collaboration with companies, non-governmental organisations, the public sector, or international partners;
  • experience in mentoring, in incubation programmes, or in the development of entrepreneurship education;
  • research or development work linking economics with societal impact, sustainability, and entrepreneurship.

Education

The successful candidate holds a doctoral degree (or is close to completion) in a field closely related to the topics described in the position profile.

Work experience

The candidate must meet the requirements for the position of Lecturer as set out in Annex 6 of the Tallinn University Employment Regulations.


The successful candidate:

  • has published research papers in academic journals;
  • is (or has been) an active practitioner in their field and has experience in community engagement;
  • has teaching experience in higher education (lectures, workshops, continuing education courses, etc.);
  • has experience participating in admissions and assessment committees, writing reviews, and supervising theses.

Language skills

Estonian and English proficiency at C1 level.
