Call for CEEShub visiting scholars

Position description: 

We would invite the scholars to situate their proposed research focus with the recent CEEShub conference theme “Between Peripheries”. The applications may consider one of the research questions below and consult the conference call to better align the planned research with the Hub's central foci: 

• How do security hierarchies operate in CEE and Global South, respectively, and what forms of perspectives and expertise are elevated or silenced?
• How do critical Global East-Global South connections reshape our understanding of security and peace?
• How has postcoloniality been used to reinforce exceptionality rather than transnational solidarity?
• What alternative security framings emerge from grassroots actors, marginalized groups, or non-state institutions?
• How can security be reconceptualized from a critical-relational perspective that moves beyond crisis-driven and militarized models?

Your Role: 

• conduct independent and collaborative research on the topic of the proposed research project
• support the research activities of the CEEShub 
• Lead two guest seminars in MA courses taught by the International Relations Department

We expect the grantees to have a doctoral degree.

We invite applications for visiting fellows for the year 2026. Possible times for the research visits are: 24.08.26 - 07.01.27 (4.5 months). The visiting researchers are expected to be in residence in Tallinn during their visit.

Interviews. Starting from 15th of May 2026

Decision: Last week of May 2026.

Reimbursement and Cancellation Policy:

The organizers will reimburse the travel costs against receipts up to the maximum sum of 500 EUR. We will send more detailed instructions later.

We recommend taking out travel insurance that covers cancellation, and/or buying tickets that may be cancelled.  

In accordance with the University’s guidelines, researchers with an active affiliation at a Russian university or research institute cannot be selected.
