Tallinn University announces a competition for a position of Tenure Track Associate Professor (the position of Tenure System career level I).

The School of Educational Sciences is an academic unit of Tallinn University that bears significant responsibility for teaching, research, and development activities in the field of education at the university. Work assignments

The professorship in educational psychology spans two institutes and academic fields: 80% is affiliated with the School of Educational Sciences within the field of Teacher Education and Educational Sciences and Center of Educational Psychology, supporting the development of various teacher education curricula and providing psychological foundations for teaching. The remaining 20% is linked to the School of Natural Sciences and Health in the field of Psychology and Behavioural Sciences, focusing on supervising and teaching students in the psychology program. The position supports both research and teaching across domains, creating a strong connection between psychology and teacher education.


The focus of academic work of the Professor of Educational Psychology is on establishing a sustainable tradition of educational psychology in Estonian teacher education and educational research that is grounded in psychological theories of learning and development. Academic work involves research on the educational implications (e.g., learning design studies) of neuroscience or cognitive sciences research in relevant domains (for example, didactics of subject teaching, science education, learning mathematics), integrating the developmental, neural and cognitive approaches.


The main duties of the Professor of Educational Psychology are:

  • Development of topics associated with educational psychology in all education-related study programmes,
  • application for research projects and their management,
  • leading a research group in the field. 


The duties of the professor are described in Annexes 1, 2 and Annex 10 of the Employment Relations Rules of TLU.

The duties are approximately divided as follows: research (55%), teaching (20%) and social and institutional activity (25%).

   

Education

Doctoral degree or equal qualification in the field of psychology.

Work experience

The successful candidate has prior experience in training teachers.

Language skills

Proficiency in English at an advanced level (C1), Estonian language proficiency is an asset. Upon starting the position, the requirement is to acquire Estonian language proficiency within 5 years in order to be able to teach in Estonian.
