Health Data Analyst

Help turn Estonia’s real-world health and genetic data into usable clinical evidence!

The Institute of Computer Science at the University of Tartu is seeking a Health Data Analyst to work with large-scale observational health data in the OMOP Common Data Model, co-design analyses with clinicians and researchers, and translate results into risk prediction and quality-measurement outputs that can be reused across studies and stakeholder groups.

The position operates at the interface of data science, clinical practice, and national health data infrastructure - where rigorous analytics becomes actionable insight.

Work assignments

  • Design and implement statistical analyses and predictive risk models based on the research questions from clinicians.
  • Apply appropriate statistical and machine learning methods to large-scale health datasets.
  • Develop and validate predictive risk models, including integration of routine healthcare data with genetics-derived features where appropriate.
  • Interpret analysis results and communicating findings to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with clinicians, researchers, IT specialists, and external partners.
  • Contribute to scientific publications, reports and grant deliverables.
  • Ensure data quality, reproducibility, and compliance with data protection and ethical requirements.
  • Present results to various stakeholders and the wider public.

Education

Higher education (preferably Master's degree) in data science, statistics, computer science, mathematics, bioinformatics, epidemiology, or a related field.

Work experience

  • Experience working with healthcare data and OMOP CDM.
  • Strong knowledge of statistical methods.
  • Experience with statistical programming languages such as R.
  • Experience with SQL and working with relational databases.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex analytical results to mixed audiences: clinicians, researchers, and non-technical stakeholders (including public-facing presentations).
  • Initiative and solution-orientated mindset.
  • Sense of duty and responsibility.
  • Very good teamwork and collaboration skills.
  • Analytical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to independently plan and organize one's own work.
  • Ability to translate between clinical questions and statistical design.

Language skills

Very good command of spoken and written English. Working proficiency in Estonian (required for collaboration with clinical stakeholders and understanding health data).
