Work assignments


The objective of the position is to raise the quality of teaching and research in the field of mathematical economics and applied statistics (incl. survey data analysis and didactics). Assistant Professor of Mathematical Economics and Applied Statistics engages in curriculum and teaching methodology development, and in teaching subjects aligned with the research direction. The role also includes supervising students at all levels of higher education, including doctoral students.


Tasks:


  • Conducting research and development (R&D) in the relevant field, including its organization and the leadership of research topics.
  • Developing cooperation with other research and development institutions as well as private sector enterprises.
  • Organizing the development of the material and technical resources necessary for R&D and educational activities in the field of mathematical economics and applied statistics.
  • Engaging in a balanced combination of teaching, research, and development activities in accordance with the academic career model, specifically in the field of didactics of mathematical economics and applied statistics.
  • Supervising doctoral, master's, and bachelor's students in conducting independent research.
  • Publishing the results of research and development activities; acting as an expert in one's field.
  • Delivering teaching (at bachelor's, focused on master's and doctoral levels) and conducting curriculum development using contemporary methodological and educational technology standards in the field of mathematical economics and applied statistics (Fundamentals of Business Mathematics (MEM3020), Business Mathematics (TEM0320), Statistics (TES0020)).
  • Organizing academic teaching and curriculum development activities and assuming responsibility for their quality within the field.
  • Expected research and development directions: didactics of mathematics, didactics of mathematical economics, didactics of applied statistics, applied research based on survey data.


Accompanying tasks: participation in national and international professional decision-making bodies and committees; cooperation with scientific journal editorial boards, peer review of scientific articles; popularization of one's field and scientific domain; coordination of professional continuing education; participation in the work of the university’s collegial decision-making bodies and committees, and holding leadership positions.


The position is fixed term, up to eight years from taking up the position.

Work experience

  • A doctoral degree in mathematics didactics or statistics didactics,  doctoral degree defended no later than 10 years ago from the expected time of taking up the position.
  • The number of scientific publications in the amount of at least two doctoral theses, the level of citations is characterised by the h-index ≥ 6.
  • Prior experience in applying for and obtaining competitive funding/contracts.
  • Has completed postdoctoral studies and/or has professional experience in another  organisation outside Tallinn University of Technology, preferably in an international research environment.
  • Participation in the activities of networks of professional or scientific organisations.
  • Professional activity at events of scientific or other organisations.
  • Previous experience in teaching and supervising at different levels of higher education supports taking up the position.
