Work assignments

Running from 2025 to 2029, SustainERA will combine high-level research with the development of innovative solutions to promote a sustainable mindset and practices. By integrating expertise from multiple disciplines and fostering international collaboration, the project also aims to enhance Tallinn University’s research excellence and capacity. Four doctoral students and postdoctoral researchers will be recruited through an international competition to complement the existing research team.

The focus of the project is to investigate and understand individual-level characteristics (e.g., attitudes, values, knowledge, and competencies) and behaviours regarding the environment, sustainability, and non-growth in Estonia, within the context of the wider Nordic-Baltic region. The successful applicant will conduct a scoping review of research literature and existing datasets related to individual characteristics, behaviours, and progress towards sustainability goals. They will develop reliable indicators and metrics to measure changes in these characteristics, behaviours, and progress towards sustainability goals, including growth, well-being, and perceived social justice (as highlighted by non-growth initiatives). Additionally, the applicant will establish standardised methods for monitoring and evaluating the impact of governmental, organisational, and community-based sustainability and anti-sustainability initiatives on public awareness, individual-level characteristics, and behaviours.

In addition to their postdoctoral research, the successful candidate will be expected to contribute to various teaching, administrative, and capacity-building activities within the SustainERA project, including participation in writing grant proposals on related topics. These responsibilities will account for 20% of the workload. Candidates will be expected to reside and work in Tallinn.
