The purpose of the post of Professor of Structural Chemistry is to promote research and development of green chemicals and environmentally friendly technologies, focusing on creating sustainable synthesis methods and finding new solutions that comply with the principles of green chemistry. The Professor's post supports an interdisciplinary approach, involving knowledge of chemistry, biotechnology, environmental technology and energy technology, to develop new chemicals and processes that help reduce environmental impacts and support the implementation of the circular economy, and that follow the principles of green chemistry in addressing environmental challenges.


The focus of the post's research topics will be to investigate the impact of chemical compound structures on the properties of compounds and to enhance them and to investigate the environmental impact. There is also a plan to establish close links between academia, industry and government agencies, promoting cooperation and knowledge exchange, and supporting the use of green technology and sustainable development. The goal of the post of Professor of Structural Chemistry is also providing education corresponding to the profession and improving the efficiency of formal education.


Tasks:


  • research and development in the field and organisation the research and development, management of research topics;
  • development of cooperation with other research and development institutions and companies;
  • organisation of the development of a material base for research and development in the field of structural chemistry;
  • a balanced amount of professional teaching, research and development in the field of structural chemistry in accordance with the organisation of academic career management;
  • supervising doctoral students, postgraduates and undergraduate students in conducting independent research;
  • publication of research and development results, work as an expert in their specialty;
  • study and development activities at up-to-date methodological and educational technology level;
  • organisation of academic teaching and development activities and responsibility for the level thereof in their speciality;
  • mobilising additional funding (from outside the university) to support its field of activity;
  • expected fields of R & D: the professor focuses his/her research mainly on developing new effective, green and environmentally friendly synthesis methods to produce the necessary chemicals and products, including macro cycles, and to synthesise and apply molecules, plastics and polymers based on green chemistry in the industry as cleaning agents and in the composition of new materials.

Education

Doctoral degree in the field of research related to the field of activity.

Work experience

  • previous international professional experience in the research field of the field of activity;
  • has been a PI and main executor of a project/contract in the last five years;
  • at least five years of teaching experience at different levels of higher education, including the supervision of at least two defended master theses and one defended doctoral thesis in the last five years;
  • scientific publications in the amount of at least three doctoral theses in the field of organic chemistry, structural chemistry or green chemistry in the last five years indexed in SCOPUS or WEB of Science, SCOPUS h-index of at least 10;
  • the level of scientific publications and number of citations are comparable to the ones of the professors in the same field at the university reference universities;
  • advanced Estonian * and English;
  • previous experience in popularising the field will be useful.


* If a candidate for the position does not speak advanced Estonian, the acquisition of Estonian language proficiency at level B2 is required within three years of taking up the position.
